Skin Care Tips

When shopping for skin-care products, what key ingredients should
women look for?

Cleansers: Combinations of acids (lactic, glycolic, salicylic, or L-ascorbic
vitamin C) and antioxidants (seaweed, green tea, grape seed, or goji berry).

Toners: Seaweed/algae, sodium PCA, aloe, lactic acid, and vitamin C.

Astringents: Salicylic acid, green tea, lemongrass extract, tea tree oil,
licorice, and mulberry.

Exfoliants: Granular exfoliants ( jojoba beads or rice beads), chemi-
cal exfoliants (lactic, glycolic, tartaric, or salicylic acids, or retinoids), or
enzymes, such as papaya.

Moisturizers: Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and
peptides to stimulate collagen and elastin; and brightening agents, such
as kojic acid, licorice, and mulberry.

What can women do to help prevent breakouts?
Keep your hands off your face. Resting or leaning your hands on your face
or neck can cause blemishes.

Clean hands and product applicators before touching them to your face.
Brushes should be cleaned at least once a week, and sponges and pads
should be discarded after each use.

Use a fresh towel. To avoid breakouts on your body, use your own towel and
washcloth and wash them several times a week.

Change pillowcases at least once or twice a week.

Watch your diet. The key to healthy skin is eating foods rich in fiber, such
as fresh fruits and vegetables, and staying hydrated.
